SACRAMENTO –The California Senate has concurred with provisions adopted by the Assembly yesterday and cleared the Charge Ahead California Initiative (SB 1275, De León) for the governor’s signature.

The bill’s sponsors—Coalition for Clean Air, Communities for a Better Environment, Environment California, The Greenlining Institute and Natural Resources Defense Council—thanked Senate President pro Tem-elect Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) for authoring the bill and urged Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. to sign SB 1275 into law.

“With this bill California is driving towards a clean air future that benefits everyone, not just the wealthy,” said Senate Kevin de León. “Governor Brown should sign SB 1275 to ensure low- and moderate-income residents have greater access to zero-emission vehicles.”

In his 2014 State of the State Address, Governor Brown gave a full-throated endorsement to one of the chief objectives of the Charge Ahead California Initiative. “We’re on our way to a million electric vehicles,” Brown said in the January 22 speech.

Electric vehicle supporters were also encouraged by the $200 million of cap-and-trade auction proceeds that the governor included in the 2014-2015 budget to advance low-carbon transportation, including zero and near-zero emission cars, trucks and buses.
