On March 17, 2022, concerned citizens and organizations met on the steps of the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) building to raise their voices in support of rooftop solar and in opposition to the CPUC’s disastrous NEM 3.0 decision.
Ben Grundy, Global Warming Solutions Associate, spoke on behalf of Environment California, calling on the CPUC and Governor Gavin Newsom to make sure that California continues to lead on rooftop solar so we can meet our state’s goal of 100% clean electricity by at least 2045.
My name is Ben Grundy and I’m the Global warming solution associate for Environment California. California is leading the way to a 100% renewable energy future- with more than a million solar roofs, more than a million electric cars and plans in place to get to 100% clean electricity by 2045. It's up to us to continue to lead, to make sure we accelerate away from fossil fuel dependence even faster. Because as California goes, so goes the nation- and there is so much at stake right now.
But if instead, California, one of the sunniest places in the entire world, kills rooftop solar, it will be a massive blow to our clean energy leadership. One we cannot afford to have happen. In a joint plan with other state agencies, the CPUC said that we need four times as much rooftop solar to get to 100% clean electricity by 2045.
That’s why Environment California joins the hundreds of organizations and hundreds of thousands of citizens to call on Gov Newsom and the CPUC to make sure our state continues leading the way toward a 100% renewable future by saving rooftop solar
