Statement from Dan Jacobson, Legislative Director Environment California

Environment California

“I strongly support Governor Brown’s foresight and conviction to highlight the role that a clean environment plays in our future.”

“Governor Brown continues to push the envelope on clean energy.  He knows that clean, green jobs are fundamental to cleaning our air, moving us off foreign oil and getting California’s economy back on track. According to a recent report by The Solar Foundation, almost 25% of all the solar jobs in the country are located in California.*

As state and local leaders get behind Governor Brown’s pioneering vision for installing 12 gigawatts of local, clean power across the state by 2020, Californians reap the benefits of more green jobs, clean energy and clean air.

In the Governor’s words-

“My intention is to make California again a leader in job creation, renewable energy and state of the art efficiency, innovation of all kinds and a solid primary and secondary education.”

“As a result, California is attracting billions of dollars in clean tech venture capital investments. In 2011, almost 40% of such investments were made in California, making our state not only the leader in the nation but in the world.” (from Governor Brown’s speech as prepared)

*=The solar industry has roughly doubled in size since 2007 and California is home to roughly 25% of all solar power companies in the nation. According to The Solar Foundation’s 2011 National Jobs Census report, more than 3,500 establishments are active in California’s solar industry, employing more than 25,000 people.
