Legislature Misses Opportunity to Pass Ocean Protection Bill

Sacramento, CA - In the final day of the legislative session, the State Senate failed to act on AB 298 (Brownley), a bill to ban single-use plastic bags statewide. This bill would have been a major step forward in protecting the Pacific Ocean from plastic pollution.

California Legislature Passes Three Solar Bills

The California State Legislature has made it easier for more Californians to participate in the state’s clean energy transformation, passing bills to expand solar hot water heaters to community pools, to cap permitting fees for solar systems and to enable aggregate net metering by farmers, schools and other customers with multiple meters.

Obama Admin. Finalizes Historic Clean Car Standards

Today the Obama administration finalized new clean car standards that will double the fuel efficiency of today’s vehicles by 2025, drastically reducing emissions of carbon pollution and cutting oil use nationwide.  The standards will cover new cars and light trucks in model years 2017-2025, and require those vehicles to meet the equivalent of a 54.5 miles-per-gallon standard by 2025.
