California “Straws on Request” Bill to Reduce Plastic Pollution Passes Out of State Senate

AB 1884 (Calderon/Bloom), which calls upon dine-in, full service restaurants to give customers plastic straws only upon request, passed the State Senate on Monday with a 25-15 vote. The bill heads back to the Assembly for a concurrence vote, where is expected to pass, before heading to Gov. Jerry Brown’s desk.

California produces 23.2 times as much solar power as it did in 2007, and 2.6 times as much wind power, according to a new report released today by Environment California Research & Policy Center. The report also highlights advances in the use of energy storage and electric vehicles, and California ranked 19th for improvements in electricity energy efficiency programs.

Key Legislative Committee Passes Landmark 100% Clean Electricity Bill

The California Assembly Committee on Utilities and Energy voted today to pass the landmark Senate Bill 100 (De León), which will ensure that California generates 100 percent of its electricity from renewable and zero-carbon sources by 2045.
